Athletics Team Promoted at State Championships

Congratulations to our Secondary Athletics Team who competed well in the School Sport SA D Grade Track and Field Championships in Adelaide.

Competing against nine other schools from across South Australia, our team finished in 2nd place overall. Our girls placed 3rd in their division and our boys took out the division, finishing in 1st place. These strong results will see the �鶹�� Athletics Team promoted to the C grade competition for next year’s Championships.

Whilst in Adelaide, the team had the privilege of attending a guided tour of the Adelaide Oval. Students were shown around the grounds which included access to the football changerooms, cricket changerooms, media bunker and the iconic scoreboard.

Year 7/8 Cricket

On Thursday November 2, the Year 7/8 Boys Cricket team ventured to the Blue Lake Sports Park to compete in a Twenty20 match against Millicent High School. �鶹�� had a mix of experienced and new cricketers. They bowled well, restricting Millicent to 90 runs. Notable performances include Les Jagger, Samuel Ellis, Josh Vanderhorst and Will Dower. The batters started carefully, and despite only losing one wicket through the innings they couldn’t get enough runs, losing by 9. The boys played in great spirit, representing �鶹�� with pride

Year 7/8 & 9/10 Netball

On Wednesday September 6, 30 Year 7, 8 and 9 students represented �鶹�� at the annual South East Zone Netball Carnival at Olympic Park. The College had two teams participate in the Year 7/8 competition and one team participate in the Year 9/10 competition. All teams had a competitive and enjoyable day with the 7/8 red team as a standout, winning three of their four games. A huge thanks to Senior School students Ella, Myra and Poppy for umpiring and staff members Maddy and Mrs Liebelt for their efforts in coaching the teams.

Year 11/12 Volleyball

On Monday September 4, 15 Senior School students participated in the 11/12 Volleyball Competition at the Wulanda Recreational Centre. The main aim of the day was for the region to have a formalised Volleyball competition, in addition to the existing day held during Physical Education week. Both the boys and girls teams came up against Mount Gambier, Penola, and Millicent High Schools in what were even competitions. The boys won 1 of their 3 encounters for the day, while the girls were undefeated coming into the last round before losing to Millicent High School in 2 sets, both by 3 or less points. The students represented the College in terrific spirit in what was a successful day for students to gain exposure of competitive Volleyball available in Mount Gambier.

Senior Basketball Championships

Last Friday, our Senior School Basketball teams competed in Adelaide following their success in the recent local tournament. Both Saint’s teams played 5 games, with the boys finishing 1-4 and the girls finishing undefeated, winning their pool. The 13 boys and girls stayed the night at the Warradale Urban School Camp. The group enjoyed their downtime, heading to the Marion shopping centre for some retail therapy and a bite to eat. Congratulations to all the players and staff for their efforts over the two days.

SAPSASA Basketball

On Friday August 4, the College took two basketball teams to The Icehouse for the local Year 5/6 LSE SAPSASA basketball carnival. Both teams did extremely well. The girls team won their first four games and qualified for a playoff final. Unfortunately, they lost this game narrowly. The boys team also had a successful day, winning five of their six games, narrowly missing their pool’s playoff game.

On Thursday August 3, our Senior School Basketball teams travelled to Keith to participate in the Statewide Schools Basketball competition. Both the boys and the girls teams were successful, and have progressed to the finals in Adelaide in week 4

Boys:

71 – 27 against River Murray
77 – 39 against Penola

Girls:

53 – 33 against Keith
41 – 4 against Penola

7/8 Boys Football

On Thursday July 27, the �鶹�� 7/8 Boys Football team competed in the Statewide Schools Football competition at Vansittart Park. The Saints played two games throughout the day, one against Grant High School and the other against Millicent High School. After losing to Grant, they played a fierce game against Millicent, eventually winning by just one point. Will Dower and Andrew Yu were standout performers in their first ever football games, and should be commended for their enthusiasm. The boys played well and should be proud of their effort.

Year 7/8 Soccer

On Thursday June 22, the �鶹�� Year 7/8 Boys Soccer team participated in the Statewide Schools Soccer competition against Tenison Woods College. The boys braved very cold weather and had their back against the wall, with Tenison taking a 4-0 lead into half time. The boys showed great grit and determination to come back and have the score at 3-4 with less than 15 minutes remaining. Late goals to both sides resulted in a one goal defeat at full time. Well done to all of the students involved, they should be proud of their effort.
